día de independencia - Liceo de Sámara

Independence day in Costa Rica is celebrated with beautiful parades, music and dance to celebrate the more than 200 years of indpendence from Spain. Students spend weeks preparing and practicing, honing their skills to show their national pride. In the Liceo de Sámara, students participated in two public events to celebrate. First, the “antorcha” which consists of groups of students from various schools throughout the country carrying and passing a flame to each other on a trail which passes through the entire country as a symbol of Costa Rica’s vibrancy and unity. The second event in which students showcase their skills is a parade which passes through the main streets of Playa Sámara. Students in the band and dance groups participate with traditional performances.
